Turning Policy into Practice

“Policy not effectively implemented is no better than policy never made.” says our CEO, summing up his three decades both working inside and advising government.  “It doesn’t have to be that way,” he continues, noting that there are proven approaches to getting results. Few of the routine explanations offered to justify lack of results are valid.  Responsible officials frequently fail to apply the right skill sets and the right methodologies to achieve the desired outcomes. The DEFCON® team is expert at getting your organization where it wants to go.

One of the most common problems centers around failure to conduct an honest corporate/departmental self-assessment, and this is more often than not best tasked to outside experts (conducted in conjunction with the organization itself).  An old maxim says “If you don’t know where you’re going, any path will get you there.”  The DEFCON® version of that phrase says “If you don’t know where you are, it’s impossible to plot a course to your destination.”  Particularly in the military services, where the mindset is “Yes, sir!” and dedicated people will try to accomplish any task under any circumstance, the critical necessity of stopping to reflect on the best approach to the task is often overlooked.  Stepping back and conducting an organizational assessment is an absolute necessity for successful organizations. Done well, it returns far more in efficiency, effectiveness and results than it costs to accomplish.
